In Transcarpathia, a 19-year-old driver of a Daewoo Lanos fatally struck a pedestrian and fled the scene.

A fatal accident occurred on December 25 at around 10 PM in the village of Klenovets, Mukachevo district. The driver of a Daewoo Lanos struck a 33-year-old pedestrian, resulting in death, and fled the scene of the accident. The resident of Transcarpathia was apprehended and faces up to 8 years in prison.

As reported by the police of the Transcarpathian region on December 26, a resident of the village of Verkhny Vyznytsia died at the scene due to the accident. A special police operation was launched in the area to locate the driver.

“Law enforcement managed to find the abandoned Daewoo Lanos with damage consistent with the accident. Just an hour later, the driver – a 19-year-old resident of the village of Kolchino – was also apprehended. He was tested and found to be sober,” the police stated.

The suspect has been placed in a temporary detention facility. For violating traffic safety rules that led to the death of the victim, he faces up to 8 years in prison.
