According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the operational situation in southern Ukraine remains consistently tense. On Sunday, December 22, the enemy launched one attack in the direction of Novohandriivka on the Orikhiv front. In the Dnipro direction, our forces repelled one enemy attack towards the island zone, and the enemy did not succeed.
Near Kherson, Russian forces are constantly attempting to cross the Dnipro River and seize the islands. There are 5-7 such attempts daily. This was reported by the spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, Vlad Voloshin, during a national telemarathon "Unified News."
"The situation in the Kherson direction has remained almost unchanged for several weeks, and similar attempts to storm the Dnipro occur every day. We record between 5 to 7 such assault or, rather, reconnaissance operations by the enemy daily in the Dnipro or Kherson directions. They try to cross the Dnipro or certain streams, capture a foothold on one of the islands or the right bank, and establish themselves there to move artillery systems to exert fire influence on Kherson and nearby coastal cities."
Regarding the assault that took place the day before yesterday, it is not an extraordinary situation — such assaults happen daily. The day before yesterday, before attempting to cross near the Antonivskyi Bridge, the enemy began a fairly powerful artillery preparation with multiple rocket launchers and artillery.
However, the Defense Forces acted preemptively, and some rocket launchers were destroyed right at their starting positions. That day, as a result of counter-battery warfare, one and a half dozen various artillery systems and rocket launchers were eliminated. An enemy group that attempted to take advantage of this shelling only made it halfway across the Dnipro.
And such situations occur on our front every day," Vlad Voloshin stated.
