The mayor of Dneprorudny, Yevgeny Matveyev, has died in Russian captivity.
As noted by the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Matveev was captured back in March 2022. At that time, Russian occupiers detained a bus carrying workers from the Zaporizhzhia Iron Ore Plant at a checkpoint, and the city mayor went to assist them.
Ultimately, the miners were released, but Yevgeny Matveev ended up in captivity. He was held for 2 years and 8 months, and his fate remained unknown. Matveev's body was handed over to Ukraine during a recent exchange.
We remind you that last week, on November 29, the bodies of 502 fallen servicemen were returned to Ukraine.
We also reported that the self-proclaimed mayor of the city of Dniprovske – a collaborator from the now-banned "Opposition Platform" – has been suspected by the Security Service of Ukraine.
