Details: According to Szijjártó, "The European Commission has committed to protecting the gas and oil pipelines that lead to the EU member states."
"They made it clear that the integrity of the energy infrastructure supplying EU member states is a security issue for the entire EU. The European Commission is also seeking guarantees from Ukraine to maintain oil supplies to the EU," added the Hungarian Foreign Minister.
These "commitments" from the EU have not been publicly announced, but according to media reports, Hungary requested the EU to pressure Ukraine to preserve the transit of Russian oil and to engage in discussions about gas transit in exchange for its agreement to support the extension of economic sanctions against Russia.
The EU's chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas, stated that this concerns "energy solidarity with landlocked countries," emphasizing that Hungary was satisfied with the EU's assurances.
The decision to extend sanctions against Russia was reached at the meeting of EU foreign ministers on Monday, January 27.
